With its many shades of green Tolmiea is a truly special plant. Every month a new tiny plant appears on the old leaf, which can develop to become an entirely new individual plant. This facility gives it its other name, the piggyback plant or thousand mothers. If you want the 'offspring' to become new adults, remove them to their own pot and they will quickly grow. The plant originates from North America. It thrives in a light spot, however avoid full exposure to the sun. Tolmiea also appreciates a lightly moist soil. Provided winters are not too wet and cold, you can also plant it outside as ground cover.
